We decided to spend the day in Savannah which is less than an hour from Hilton Head. I had found out about a scavenger hunt book you can buy and then use to discover Savannah. The first challenge was to find the place to buy the book. After a brief detour through a few of the beautiful squares we headed to the riverfront. On the way there we found the Moon River Brewing Co and bought the book. The plan is to go to the places in the book and read one of the signs there and find the clue. It will say line 2 word 3 and you find that on the sign. On the way down to the riverfront we found our first clue.
The basements of the old warehouses have been converted into shops and restaurants along the river. You have to climb down several long staircases to get down to the riverfront. We ate at The Cotton Exchange Retaurant. Food was good and it was nice to be in the air conditioning after the hot, humid walk through town.

We continued our hunt going from square to square reading the signs. At the Colonial Cemetery, the sky opened up and rain poured on us. It had been threatening this but we had to keep going. So, we stood in the cemetery beside the graves under a huge oak full of Spanish moss while the thunder and lightening raged overhead. What to do...what to do... We were blocks from the car and there wasn't anything around us to go to. So, we headed out of the cemetery and stood in a bus stop shelter for a few minutes as it rained even harder and the wind kicked in. Finally, the rain let up a bit and we walked back to the Visitor's Center where the car was parked. We were soaked to the skin, shoes, socks, wallets, money everything.
I doubt Joey and Ben will forget the trip to Savannah, GA.
